Coventry OutSpoke is made up of a group of like-minded LGBTQIA+ people who want to make Coventry a better place for LGBT people, with more safe venues and more events for the community.
On the last Sunday of May, they had their first event as a group, an LGBT picnic in War Memorial Park. The aim of the event was to get the LGBTQIA+ community in Coventry together. Coventry OutSpoke wanted to create a fun and safe space for everyone to come and be together as a community safely, easily and comfortably.
Coventry OutSpoke said:
"The event was brilliant. We had a high turnout of people from all across Coventry, from individuals to local organisations, like Out in Cov and Coventry Transgender Social Club.
The picnic allowed people to find out more about Cov OutSpoke and what we’re doing. We wanted people to find out who we are and what we’re doing and from this picnic we definitely succeeded in spreading the word about the group."
The picnic was the group’s short-term goal so that they could create something for the LGBT community in Coventry whilst they worked on their larger goals. Following the success of their first picnics, Coventry OutSpoke is hosting another picnic so you can come along and find out more about what Coventry OutSpoke is all about; join in with the food and games and have fun together!
